In praise of quiet games

September 3, 2026 · Lukas Brandt

Most mobile games fight for your attention with noise, timers and flashing rewards. The Lantern Path does the opposite, and it's one of the most memorable things I've played this year.

There's almost no text. You walk, you notice things, you solve gentle puzzles by paying attention. It trusts you to slow down, and that trust is rare.

I played it in one long evening with headphones on, and the ambient sound completely pulled me in. It's short, but it's the kind of short that sticks with you.

We spend so much time talking about the biggest, loudest games. Quiet ones deserve a spot on your phone too.
